Antimony trisulfide is known as the mineral stibnite and has the chemical formula Sb2S3. This unique mineral has perfect basal cleavage, which results in a material with unique friction properties. It is widely used in war industry powder, match and fireworks, glass and rubber and so on.

In friction components, stibnite may enhance the effects of other solid lubricants such as graphite or molybdenum disulfide. Sb2S3 additions to friction formulations help to decrease wear and stabilize the coefficient of friction by aiding the formation of a uniform friction boundary layer.
